Synopsis

“Yıldız Alpar: From Bedii Raks Till Today” tells a success story with few parallels in the world. Born in Istanbul in 1931, Yıldız Alpar entered the piano department of the Istanbul Municipal Conservatory in 1943, where she met the famous Russian ballet teacher Lidya Krassa Arzumanova, and so took her first steps into a ballet career that continues to this day. After studying at the Paris Opera Ballet with a scholarship from the cultural attaché of the French Consulate in 1949, she returned to Turkey and, at a time when there was nothing yet in the name of ballet in the country, founded the “Yıldız Alpar Private Ballet, Music and Theatre School” in Kadıköy in 1964 through personal determination and extraordinary effort. Still teaching in the same place, Yıldız Alpar shares with us, in a warm and gripping way, the nearly a century she has witnessed.
