About Us

Surela Film Production was founded by Çayan Demirel in 2008 for the purpose of producing independent documentaries.

Since then, Surela Film has produced many award winning films such as "38", “Prison Number 5: 1980-84”, “Yıldız Alpar: From Bedii Raks Till Today”, ''Dr. Şivan'', “My Child” ve "North".

Besides its special interest in oral history and biography projects, Surela Film Production also produces introductory films for institutions and organisations.
Furthermore it gives production services for international projects and TV channels such as ARTE, ZDF, ARD, ORF for their productions in Turkey.

Bakur Directors Facing Imprisonment!
Batman 2nd High Criminal Court sentenced the directors Çayan Demirel and Ertuğrul Mavioğlu to 4 years and 6 months imprisonment in their absentia, without even hearing their last statements. 
Documentary “38” is still banned!

“38”, the documentary which presents the events that happened in Dersim during 1938 was banned by the Cultural Ministry in 2007, and the ban still continues.
